The U.S. National Travel and Tourism Office has tracked the post-pandemic return of international tourists from its key source markets, as well as forecasting visitor numbers for the coming years.
As the rebound gathers pace, Mexican nationals will be the first group to exceed 2019 arrival numbers, with 19 million visitors expected in 2024. Canada and the UK will accordingly see arrivals exceeding 2019’s total in 2025, while Chinese citizens will surpass the pre-pandemic total in 2027 with 3 million border crossings being forecast.
For Japanese nationals, however, 2027’s arrival total will still not outnumber that recorded in 2019.
