A survey conducted by Statista Consumer Insights between January and December 2025 examined the most common medical symptoms experienced by adults (ages 18-64) worldwide over the previous twelve months. Our infographic shows results from six countries: Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Mexico, India and China. With national sample sizes ranging from 1,700 to 8,600 respondents, the study offers a snapshot of current health challenges, highlighting both global trends and regional differences.

Pain, such as back pain, headaches and joint pain, tops the list in nearly every country. The reported 12-month prevalence is particularly high in Germany (59 percent) and the United Kingdom (56 percent), while about half of adults report such health problems in Mexico, India and the United States. These high rates reflect the widespread burden of chronic pain, often linked to aging populations, sedentary lifestyles and occupational risks.

Respiratory symptoms, such as coughs, runny noses and sore throats, are the second most common health issues in most of the countries included in our chart. They rank first in China (45 percent) and almost top the list in India and Mexico, where the highest prevalence is reported, at 50 percent each. Air pollution and the impact of seasonal illnesses are likely among the main contributing factors. The U.K. and Germany also show relatively high rates (45-47 percent), while in the United States, respiratory symptoms rank fourth, at 36 percent, just behind sleep disorders.

Mental health problems, sleeping disorders and digestive issues are also common, though their prevalence varies more widely. Mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety and burnout, affect 37 to 41 percent of adults in the U.K. (ranking third) and the US (ranking second), compared with 22 to 32 percent in Mexico, India and Germany. Sleep disorders rank third or fourth among the symptoms studied in all six countries, affecting 36 to 42 percent of respondents in the U.K., Mexico, the US and Germany, versus about a quarter in China and India (24 and 27 percent, respectively). Digestive problems are also widespread, particularly in Mexico (57 percent) and India (34 percent), where they rank third, as well as in the U.K. and Germany (both 33 percent, ranking fourth). These patterns suggest that diet, lifestyle and local conditions may contribute to differences in common health complaints, while cultural factors likely also influence how symptoms are reported.
