With 38.7 million copies sold to date, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has become the best-selling game of the long-running franchise, officially surpassing Mario Kart Wii's already impressive number of 37.4 million lifetime sales. With roughly nine million units shifted between November 2020 and November 2021, Animal Crossing: New Horizons sits firmly in second place of the most-sold Nintendo Switch games. Even though Nintendo saw a 20 percent drop in year-over-year profits from April to September 2021, the Japanese gaming giant still managed to accumulate a net profit of $1.5 billion. In June 2021, the company's market cap stood at roughly $75 billion, making it the second-largest video game company in the world.
