With the easing of travel restrictions, Americans are once again eager to travel and prepare for their summer vacations. A look at the most popular travel booking sites in the U.S. shows that the most popular choice is not a booking portal but going through the accommodation’s own website. 31 percent of respondents surveyed between early 2020 and early 2021 said they had done this in the past twelve months.
Data from the Statista Global Consumer Survey further shows that Expedia was the most popular booking platform for accommodation, reaching 29 percent of respondents within a year. Hotels.com was just behind at 28 percent. Peer-to-peer apartment rental site Airbnb could count only a quarter of Americans among its regular customers. Review portal TripAdvisor, which also handles its own booking for some accommodation, reached 11 percent of respondents with this service.
