According to findings from Statista Consumer Insights, DoorDash has an edge over the competition in the U.S. restaurant delivery market, with 72 percent of consumers who order food online having placed an order on its marketplace in the past 12 months. Uber Eats comes second at 49 percent of survey respondents saying the same, just ahead of industry dinosaur Domino's Pizza.
While Uber started out as a ride-share company, it pivoted to restaurant delivery to an increasing degree during the boom times of the pandemic and now makes around a third of its revenue with food delivery.
Apart from Domino's, there are several more U.S. fast food behemoths in the top 8, serving delivery consumers directly instead of going through a delivery platform middleman. These are Pizzahut, at 28 percent of those who order food delivery having used it recently, McDonald's at 23 percent, Papa John's at 20 percent and KFC at 19 percent.
Delivery platform Grubhub lags behind its competition in the U.S. at just 29 percent of food delivery customer having used it in the past year. Between 2021 and 2025, the company was part of delivery conglomerate Just Eat, which leads several international markets under different names. It was subsequently sold to delivery startup Wonder Group.
