In a breakdown of the European tourism workforce compared with the services industry, some key characteristics of the tourism and accommodations sector become apparent. Notably, the proportion of women working in tourism and accommodations is much higher. In accommodations, women represent 59% of the workforce—the same proportion as men in the services industry. The breakdown also shows that tourism and accommodations employ a slightly higher ratio of foreign workers and people with low levels of education.
